Increasing Student Motivation To Achieve Better Results |
In school teachers have a very hard challenge trying to engage students in the studying subject and make them interest in what is being teach. Young students tend to get distracted very easily and not pay attention for long time, if they are not very interested in the subject they just do other things.
Nowadays, increasing student motivation is a real challenge for teachers and with the technology available like cell phones and laptops it get harder, so the teacher needs to find innovative ways to engage his students in what he is trying to teach, he needs to motivate them in different ways.
First you need to realize that the psychology of students is different depending of what range of ages we are talking about, you can not motivate the same way 10 year old child students to 21 year old adolescent students, they have different interest and problems, so the approach has to be different.
Lets focus on adolescent students and come up with some strategies to engage their attention. The most difficult task is to get their attention and that is why motivation can be very helpful, lets take a look.
Lets say you are a professor of history and you want to capture students attention so they can learn from you. Although you might have your own methods of teaching history, one of the things you should do is make a survey to your students and ask them what will make your history class more fun and entertainment, it could sound rare, but believe me, young students have some great creative ideas that you will have never though of.
Then you could try to implement some of their ideas in your class when its possible. Another thing that you can do to engage and motivate them is to make your class fun, if possible, dont give a full hour of just speech on history, they can get bored and asleep, instead while giving your class, ask questions to your students, ask them what they would do in certain situation, encourage them to ask question, create debates.
You could also make a question and answer section after the history speech and reward those that answer the most amount of good questions. While giving your class, dont just stay static giving your speech, instead create a power point illustrating with word and pictures each of your points, interact with your students, challenge them.
