Are You Looking For Internet Student Motivation Research? |
I have made my own research on the internet on how student motivation affect the results that they achieve in school and their grades. To get good grades students know that they need to study, learn and based on their ability when doing an exam or test they will achieve higher or lower grades.
That is what is most commonly known in most school, that students with good grades have more ability with the subject, are more intelligent, have better memory or have more ability studying. However, there is a huge factor that makes a significant difference and that is motivation.
When a student has motivation in the course or subject he is engage, he pays more attention, he retains more easily the information and therefore he can respond better the tests and achieve good grades. On the other hand a student that lacks of motivation will not pay attention in class, will not study enough and will not get good grades.
Certainly there are students that have a privileged memory or have a special ability to learn concepts quickly, however most of the times common students can have as good grades as them or bad grades depending on the effort and motivation that they want to put on.
When we talk about motivation and engagement of the students we have to divide it in 2 ways:extrinsic motivation and instrinsic motivation.
Extrinsic motivation, is any effort from the teacher or school to motivate the students with external factors like rewards, better grades, free time, extra points or punishments like, lower grades.
Intrinsic Motivation, is the motivation that comes from within the student, is when the student is interested, has curiosity or has a genuine interest in improving his knowledge.
Of those kinds of motivation the most effective is the intrinsic motivation because this comes from the inside of the student and sometimes the professor can help the students get this kind of motivation, by making the class engaging, entertaining or interesting.
