Self Motivation Resilience Carol Dweck |
Carol Dweck is a psychology professor, his last work is "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success", she has done a lot of research on the field of psychology and motivation, she base his research on facts, experiments and test that have solid proof.
Many professionals like the work of Carol Dweck and can be applied in many fields like personal development, management, motivation, leadership, emotional intelligence and more. Which has given her a lot of recognition.
One of his studies on self motivation, was focus on what make some people keep going to achieve success despite failures and what made other discouraged with failure. Usually people think that they are born with some abilities and some others are made.
However after doing some experiments with children, she found that the people that though that they failure was due to their lack of ability got discouraged with failure and the people that though that they hadnt try enough times, kept going despite setbacks and failure.
Most people give attributions to others and make them think that they were born or not with certain abilities. What she found is that some child had performance goals and other learning goals.
She found that child with performance goals wanted to look smart and set backs becomes a challenge to their self image, so they only do activities where they are sure to shine. In the other hand child with learning goals had a growth mindset that they though they learn with every mistake they made and thus they keep growing until achieving mastery.
That means that some people has a fixed mindset and other a growth mindset. Some thing that they are born with some abilities that they just have and others thing that they can develop their abilities.
What happens is that the people with fixed mindset even when they are capable of more, never achieve all their potential, while people with a growth mindset achieve more than they ever though possible.
Those studies on self motivation and psychology of achievement have been very useful in many fields and to other experts to expand in other fields like emotional intelligence.
